The 11th Underground Cinema Awards
How it all Works
The Underground Cinema Short Film Awards are now going in to their 11th year. From January 2020 through to December, Underground Cinema will once again begin screening on a monthly basis a selection of some of the best independent short films and music videos from filmmakers from around the globe. These monthly screenings are held in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire. For our international friends, that's in County Dublin in Ireland.
The short film awards are the only awards ceremony in Ireland that recognise every aspect of the art of making short films.
As everyone knows the numbers for indoor events is still restricted to 50 and people must keep their distance at 2m's apart. Until the numbers allowed at indoor gatherings is lifted at at least 100 people It effectively means we cannot screen our programs in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin which is our screening venue. We are now screening online. Films submitted are all being judged as normal and there will be an awards ceremony at the end of the year in December as normal.

End of Season
When our season of short film screenings finishes in September 2020 a panel of judges will select the films that they feel should be nominated for the Underground Cinema Awards. There will be five nominations in each category. The full list of nominees will be announced at event in Dun Laoghaire in October 2020.
With regard to the awards themselves, the awards will be presented at our annual award giving ceremony in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire on December 5th 2020 which is a ticketed event. Tickets for the event go on sale as soon as the full list of nominees are announced. Tickets include a four course dinner, the awards ceremony and aftershow party. Nominees interested in attending must purchase their own tickets. if a nominee cannot attend and happens to win an award then we will ensure that the award gets to the winner shortly after the awards ceremony.

Great festival. Selected films are eligible for nomination at an annual awards event, which is going from strength to strength. Has become a major fixture on the Irish film calendar.
